Tritons Top Vaqueros in Saturday Road Match

MOSCOW, Idaho – UC San Diego defeated UTRGV on the road Saturday afternoon, 4-1, taking the doubles point before taking three more singles courts to clinch the match. The singles matches were won on No. 2, 5, and 6, with two of the courts being taken in straight sets.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
To start the match, No. 2 doubles finished first, with Andrew Beceiro and Oliver Worth taking the court 6-2. The No. 3 court then went in favor of UTRGV before Abhinav Chunduru and Trevor Nguyen clinched the doubles point for the Tritons, 6-3.
 
In singles matches, UTRGV earned their first point at No. 1 doubles in a straight set 3-6, 6-7(3) victory. The Tritons then swept No. 5, No. 6, and No. 2, in that order, to clinch the match. On No. 5 Yaron Guberman topped his opponent 7-6(3), 6-3 to take the court. Nguyen on No. 6 won his court in a tight battle. He earned the Tritons' next point in straight tiebreaker sets, 7-6(4), 7-6(4). Prathinav Chunduru went to three sets on No. 2 ultimately earning the point 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 and finish the match in favor of the Tritons.
 
TRITON TIDBITS
  • Trey Forticq entered the Tritons lineup for the first time this season at No. 3 doubles.
  • Only four singles courts were played at once, starting with No. 1, 2, 5 and 6.
 
UP NEXT
The Tritons will stay in Moscow, Idaho to face the Idaho Vandals tomorrow, the match is set to begin at 9 a.m. On Monday, Feb. 16 they battle Montana.
