LA JOLLA, Calif. — UC San Diego head cross country coach
Nate Garcia '00 announced the team's 2025 schedule today, which features five regular season meets ahead of Big West and NCAA postseason action.
Â
"We are fortunate to be able to put together a very competitive schedule that will give our scholar-athletes the chance to show their ability on a national stage while preparing for championship events in October and November," Garcia said.
Â
The Tritons open the season in San Diego with the Aztec Coastal Classic on Aug. 29, hosted by San Diego State at Snapdragon Stadium in Mission Valley. The meet is UC San Diego's first in the City of San Diego since making the transition to Division I in 2020.
Â
September brings three meets on two different weekends. Up first is the Texas A&M Invitational on Sep. 13, followed by a split-squad weekend Sep. 26-27. The Tritons will feature at Oklahoma State's Cowboy Jamboree on the 26th and the UC Riverside Invitational on the 27th.
Â
Fellow Big West member UC Riverside is also the host of the Tritons' final regular season meet. The Highlander Invitational is set for Oct. 18, two weeks before The Big West Championships.
Â
This year's Big West Championships will be on Oct. 31 in Honolulu, Hawai'i. The Tritons are in their second season of Division I and Big West postseason eligibility. In 2024 the Triton women placed fourth out of 11 teams at the conference championships. The Triton men were fifth out of nine teams.
Â
The Tritons will also compete in the NCAA West Regional Championships on Nov. 14 in Sacramento. The Regional Championships serve as qualifiers for select teams to advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be Nov. 22 in Columbia, Missouri.
Â
Garcia is in his 19th season at the helm of the Triton program and 24th as a member of the coaching staff. He was a four-year letter-winner in both cross country and track at UC San Diego from 1996 to 2000. Garcia is assisted by
Meriah Earle, who is in her fourth season with the Tritons.
Â
The Triton women return 16 scholar-athletes from last year's squad while adding four newcomers to the mix. Nine return for the men's program, with six new scholar-athletes set to join the team.
