Tritons Drop Doubleheader in Honolulu

HONOLULU, Hawai'i – UC San Diego softball dropped the doubleheader to Hawai'i on Saturday night in a 7-4 and 4-3 results.

The Tritons finish the regular season at 15-30 overall and 13-14 in conference play.

In game one, Claire Adams got the start for the gold and blue allowing two earned runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Callie Christian came in as relief for the final two innings allowing three runs on three hits and two walks. At the plate, Alexis Jimenez went 2-for-3 scoring two runs and knocking in one. Pinch hitting, Emma Umemura hit a two-run homer for a late rally in the seventh.

In game two, India Caldwell pitched another complete game allowing four runs on six hits. Jaden Hill went 2-for-3 with two runs knocked in. Alexis Jimenez tallied a run and RBI on a lone hit.

HAWAI'I 7, UC SAN DIEGO 4
Alexis Jimenez struck first in the second inning with a leadoff home run to put the Tritons on the board at 1-0. Hawai'i immediately responded in the bottom of the same inning with a run of their own, 1-1.
 
 
Taking the lead again in the fourth, Jimenez was on first after lancing a single up the middle when Lily Hermosillo powered a double to the left field corner. Jimenez made the dive to be safe at home, 2-1. The Rainbow Wahine went ahead in the bottom, putting three runs on the board taking the lead back, 4-2.

The home team added three more runs to extend their lead to 7-2.
Rallying late in the seventh, Hermosillo battled to earn the walk and became the leadoff runner. Stepping up to the plate as a pinch hitter, Emma Umemura powered a home run over the center field fence to score Hermosillo and herself bring the Tritons within three, 7-4. The Tritons' rally was cut short as the UH defense tallied the final outs.
HAWAI'I 4, UC SAN DIEGO 3
It wasn't until the third inning that UC San Diego was able to score after trailing their hosts at 1-0. Striking first for the Tritons in game two, Alexis Jimenez slashed a double up the left field line to bring in Alexa DeMarse from her position at second to tie at 1-1.
The Tritons scored two more in the same inning as Jaden Hill's single to left field brought in Haley Garcia and Jimenez to take the lead at 3-1.
Hawai'i went on to score three more runs while the Tritons were only able to get on base one more time in the following four innings.

UP NEXT
UC San Diego will head to the inaugural Big West Softball Championship hosted May 7-10 at Cal State Fullerton. The Tritons will most likely be the sixth seed and face potential third seed UC Santa Barbara on May 7.
