SAN ANTONIO – UC San Diego senior
Tyler McGhie won the E*TRADE Men's 3-Point Championship Thursday night at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. McGhie outlasted the other seven competitors by scoring 20 points in the opening round, 21 in the semifinals, and 20 more in the final. Later, in the Skechers Battle of the Champions, McGhie bested GCU's Alyssa Durazo-Frescas, the women's champion, by a 21-18 score to claim that championship chain as well.
McGhie advanced to the semifinal by putting up 20 points in the opening round to finish in the top four. The second time through, McGhie hit for 21 – including three money balls – which propelled him into the final round against Missouri's Caleb Grill.
In the final round, McGhie fired first and put up 20 more points. Grill scored 15, and McGhie won the championship – the first by a Triton in this event.
