LONG BEACH, Calif. – The No. 10 UC San Diego men's volleyball team closed its regular season Saturday night with a 3-0 Big West loss at No. 1 Long Beach State.
Set scores from Walter Pyramid were 25-12, 25-21, and 25-18 in favor of the Beach.
The Tritons head into the upcoming Big West Championship as the fourth seed. They begin postseason play against UC Santa Barbara, the fifth seed, on April 24 in Honolulu (7:30 p.m. Pacific).
HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego hit a season-low .105 with 30 kills and 21 attack errors in 86 attempts. On the other side of the net, Long Beach State came in at .468 with 43 kills and just six errors in 79 swings.
The Beach was solid defensively at the net, holding a 13-0 advantage in blocks. In addition, LBSU led 6-3 in service aces.
It was the first time in 2025 that the Tritons did not record a block.
Individually for UC San Diego, outside hitter Josh Schellinger put down a match co-high 12 kills while hitting .333.
For Long Beach State, Skyler Varga had 12 kills and hit .550 with one error in 20 attack attempts.
UC San Diego's top hitting percentage was .194 (13-7-31) in the second set. The Beach came out firing, attacking at .778 (14-0-18) in the first set.

The Big West Championship is set for April 24-26 in Honolulu. All six conference teams compete for the league's automatic berth in the NCAA National Collegiate Championship. The seeds are:

UC San Diego is 2-0 against UC Santa Barbara this season. The Tritons won both match-ups by a 3-1 score.
