LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego Women's Water Polo Team was defeated 12-7 by league-leading Hawai'i Thursday at Canyonview Aquatic Center in La Jolla.
With the loss, the ninth-ranked Tritons fall to 14-13 overall and 3-3 in conference action.
Hawai'i, ranked third nationally, improved to 17-3. The Wahine are atop the Big West standings at 6-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Hawai'i led the entire game, but the Tritons showed grit.
The Wahine scored two quick goals to start the game and led 6-2 after the opening quarter.
Things tightened up in the second as both teams scored twice, sending the game into halftime with UH leading 8-4.
UC San Diego kept in range during the second half. The third quarter was won 2-1 by Hawai'i and the final frame was even at 2-2.
Caroline Christl recorded her 19th multiple goal game of 2025, finishing with a hat trick for the Tritons. She also added an assist.
Abigail Schechter found the back of the net twice and UC San Diego's other two goals came from
Kenzie Larson and
Holly Roberts.
Lexi Stahl made five saves and grabbed two steals in net.
For Hawai'i, Jordan Wedderburn racked up six points on four goals and a pair of assists. Bernadette Doyle also had six points with two goals and four assists. Daisy Logtens turned aside 12 bids in goal.
UC San Diego held a 32-28 lead in shots led13-11 in steals.

UP NEXT
The Tritons play their last two regular season games at home next week. Big West opponent UC Santa Barbara is in La Jolla on Friday, April 18, for a 6 p.m. start. The next day features San Diego State in a battle for the Harper Cup starting at noon. It will also be Senior Day and the celebration will take place before the game starts.
Friday's giveaway will be thunder sticks for the first 100 students while Saturday the first 100 students will get a T-shirt.
