HOW IT HAPPENED
Over the eight-inning game, the Tritons only threatened three times despite out-hitting their hosts 6-2. Both teams tallied an error that proved to be harmless as neither caused a run to go on to score.
Aggressive in the opening inning,
Alexa DeMarse was leadoff runner after earning the walk.
Jaden Hill continued her hitting streak with a single powered up the middle. With only one out on the board, the bases were loaded when
Alexis Jimenez was hit-by-pitch to reach. Back-to-back fielder's choices ended the Tritons' offensive with three left on base.
In the second,
Emma Umemura knocked a hot hit past the shortstop to reach first. Out on a sac bunt,
Elise Nishimura advanced the freshman to second. Umemura made it to third after a ground out put two outs on the board. Stranded on third, the Tritons' second inning ended with another ground out.
The final time UC San Diego threatened was in the seventh inning. Pinch hitter,
Marissa Hassis, laced a single through the right side for a final rally. A sac bunt from
Haley Garcia advanced Hassis into scoring position.
Morgan Eng was then able to put down a bunt and went for second as Hassis made it to third, Eng was out on the play at second. Hassis was stranded on third as the final out was tallied.
