SANTA CLARA, Calif.—UC San Diego baseball fell to Santa Clara, 12-2, in eight innings on Friday evening in Schott Stadium. The Tritons (13-12) moved to 0-2 in the weekend series with the Broncos (11-11).

Gabe Camacho was credited with both runs batted in, while
Anthony Potestio,
Michael Crossland and
Cooper Thacker each collected one of UC San Diego's three hits. Starter
Matthew Dalquist (3-2) was credited with the loss, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego was first to get on the board for the second night in a row, scoring on an RBI ground-out by Camacho to score Potestio from third after a leadoff single. The Broncos responded right away, tying the game in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single to make it 1-1.

The Tritons retook the lead in the third after loading the bases with one out. Camacho came up clutch once again with a sac-fly to bring in
Cooper Thacker and give UC San Diego a 2-1 advantage.

Two innings later, Santa Clara's offense caught fire, scoring three runs on four hits and two errors to jump in front, 4-2. The Tritons attempted to respond, getting two runners on with one out but UC San Diego was unable to cash in.

The Broncos added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs on two hits and two errors. SCU added another run in the seventh and four more runs in the eighth to secure the victory via run rule.Â
