SAN JOSE, Calif. -Â UC San Diego softball fell to San Jose State with a final score of 8-1 on Sunday, Feb. 16 at Spartan Softball Stadium in San Jose, Calif.
The Tritons hold a record of two wins and seven losses. San Jose State has an even record of five wins and five losses.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lily Hermosillo stood out for the Tritons with a strong performance, recording two hits and an RBI from four at-bats, contributing to the team's offensive efforts.
Haley Garcia also made an impact, reaching base twice with one hit and one walk in three at-bats, while also scoring a run. In the pitching department,
Lauren Rozell was notable for her effectiveness on the mound, pitching two innings without allowing a hit or run, striking out one batter, and maintaining control with two walks.
The hosts struck first in the second inning and proceeded to score in the following two, hanging a total of eight runs on the board before the Tritons responded in the fifth. UC San Diego's bats came together in their single scoring inning when
Haley Garcia became the leadoff runner on single slashed to left field. She was followed by
Chloe Lesko who singled to the same spot to get on and advance her teammate.
Lily Hermosillo came up to the plate and sent another single to the outfield to advance Lesko and bring Garcia home.
The Tritons threatened in the seventh with
Reilly Erickson in scoring position at third, but the final out was recorded before any damage could be done.
UP NEXT
The Tritons remain on the road as they head to Utah Tech tournament in St. George, Utah hosted by the Trailblazers from Feb. 21-23. Their first matchup is set for 9:30 a.m. PST againt Utah State.
