Tritons Drop Opening Two of Lyman Classic

ST. GEORGE, UTAH - UC San Diego (2-9) faced tough opening competition in the Lyman Classic, falling to Utah State (8-3) by a score of 10-2 and later to Utah Tech (5-8) by a narrow margin of 6-5, both games played at Karl Brooks Field in St. George, Utah.

In the matchup against Utah State, Morgan Eng made a significant impact in her sole game, going 2-for-3 at the plate and scoring one run, while also showcasing her speed with two stolen bases. Chloe Lesko led the team in hits with three, including a triple, and contributed one RBI. Lily Hermosillo added to the offensive effort with a double, driving in one run and scoring once herself, while also managing four putouts from behind the plate. Pitcher Lauren Rozell delivered a solid performance on the mound, throwing three innings without allowing any runs, striking out one batter, and giving up just three hits.

UTAH TECH 6, UC SAN DIEGO 5
In the later game against Utah Tech, Haley Garcia demonstrated strong performance with two hits and an RBI in four at-bats as the center fielder. Lily Hermosillo continued to shine, contributing significantly with two RBI on one hit. Adding to the offensive highlights, Alexis Jimenez hit her first collegiate home run, marking the first home run of the season for UC San Diego. Alexa DeMarse was active defensively at third base, recording four assists, while also reaching base twice on walks and scoring a run. India Caldwell pitched five innings, striking out three batters, but allowed six earned runs on 11 hits.

The Tritons now hold an overall record of two wins and nine losses, while Utah State maintains an overall record of eight wins and three losses and Utah Tech records five wins and eight losses.

The Tritons continue the Lyman Classic on Saturday with two games against Boise State and Weber State.
