Tritons Take Down Huskies for Homecoming Win

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego closed the first half on a 21-4 run and never looked back in a 78-60 win over visiting HCU Saturday night inside LionTree Arena. Tom Beattie led all scorers with 18 points in the win. Beattie also paced the Tritons on the glass, with six boards and he was tops on the team with four assists in the win. Alex Chaikin chipped in ten points for the Tritons, who improved to 2-0.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego scored the first four points of the night before the Huskies (1-1) reeled off nine straight of their own to go up 9-4. With HCU up by three, junior Cade Pendleton drained back-to-back three-pointers to give UC San Diego a 20-17 advantage with eight minutes left in the half.
 
In all, the Tritons ran out on a 17-2 spurt to go up 31-19 as the clock wound down under 5:00 remaining in the half. UC San Diego led 35-21 at the break, holding the Huskies to just one field goal over the final seven minutes. The Tritons limited HCU to 36% shooting and UC San Diego held a 21-15 rebounding advantage. Pendleton led all scorers with nine.
 
UC San Diego used a quick 13-0 run out of the gate in the second half to build a 51-24 lead just 6:30 into the second half. The Tritons extended their advantage to as many as 31 points, 64-33, with 7:54 to play on a Jaden Vance jumper.

  • The Homecoming crowd of 3,614 saw the Tritons raise their 2024-25 Big West Champions banner prior to tip.
  • UC San Diego outrebounded the Huskies, 38-29.
  • The UC San Diego starting lineup was Emanuel Prospere II, Aidan Burke, Tom Beattie, Leo Beath and Bol Dengdit for the second straight night.
