Men’s Fencing Ranked No. 15 in National Pre-Season Poll

LA JOLLA, Calif. — The United States Fencing Coaches Association has released its annual Pre-Season Coaches' Poll, with the UC San Diego men's team earning a No. 15 ranking.

The Tritons are ranked in advance of a new season for the third-straight year. They were also No. 15 entering the 2024-25 season.

Last season saw the Tritons win the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) team championship for the first time. This year's team features 12 returners and five newcomers.

Dayus Gohel and Sunny Sharma both return after qualifying for the National Collegiate Fencing Championships last season. Sharma was the 2025 NCAA West Region champion in men's epee. Also returning is Jacob Levy, the 2025 MPSF individual champion in men's foil.

The Tritons had eight All-Region and seven All-MPSF selections last year and return all but one fencer from each category. Head coach Juan Ignacio Calderon will lead the Tritons into his eighth season at the head of the program and his ninth at UC San Diego.

The 2025-26 season gets underway later this month with the West Invitational Nov. 22-23. The event will be hosted by Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
