Borg's First Goal Lifts Tritons to Draw in Hawai‘i

WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – UC San Diego freshman Kennadi Borg scored her first career goal as the Tritons battled host Hawai'i to a 1-1 draw Sunday evening at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The Tritons picked up another point on the road, running their conference unbeaten streak to three.

UC San Diego is now 3-5-6 overall and 1-2-2 in The Big West. Hawai'i moves to 3-5-8 (1-1-4 Big West) following Sunday's tie.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Hawai'i applied pressure early, but it was the Tritons who found the back of the net first. Late in the 24th minute, junior Alexis Nguyen found freshman Kennadi Borg who buried the ball into bottom left corner of the goal to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. The Rainbow Wahine outshot the Tritons, 5-3, but UC San Diego led 1-0 at the break.

Shortly after halftime, Hawai'i leveled the score. In the 48th minute, Tatum Porter netted the equalizer.

With just four seconds remaining, UC San Diego back Jenna Grider was issued a yellow card. Porter got off a shot on the ensuing free kick, but it sailed off target as time expired, and the match ended in a stalemate.

The Rainbow Wahine held a 12-8 advantage in shots, while the Tritons earned six corners to two for UH. UC San Diego goalkeeper Charlotte Wilfert made four saves.
