UC San Diego Blanks UCR in Big West Match

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego freshman goalkeeper Charlotte Wilfert made a career high eight saves in recording her seventh clean sheet as the Tritons blanked visiting UC Riverside, one-nil, Thursday night at Triton Soccer Stadium. Freshman Ava Tibor scored her fifth goal of the season in the win for UC San Diego (4-5-6 overall, 2-2-2 Big West). The Tritons are unbeaten in their last four.

UC Riverside fell to 0-12-2 (0-5-1) with Thursday's loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego broke through with the first goal of the match in the ninth minute. Triton freshman Anya Lin came up the right side and played a strong ball into the box, where fellow freshman Ava Tibor was there to head the ball into the back of the net. Tibor's team-leading fifth goal of the season put UC San Diego up, one-nil.

UC Riverside held an 8-4 advantage in shots over the first 45 minutes, but UC San Diego maintained the one goal advantage at halftime. Triton keeper Charlotte Wilfert made four first half saves.

After halftime, the Highlanders continued to apply pressure, but Wilfert made the necessary stops. UCR was issued yellow cards in the 52nd and 60th minutes.

In the 87th minute, UCR had perhaps its best scoring chance of the night. The Highlanders earned a corner and sent the ball in, but Triton senior back Allie Luo made an enormous, and unconvetional, stop to keep UC Riverside off the board.
