LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego's
Chloe Braun and
Charlie Franz swept the Big West Swim Athletes of the Week honors as announced by the conference on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
Swimming against No. 24 UCLA and No. 12 Wisconsin,
Chloe Braun posted three top five finishes. The junior finished second in the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 29.25 and was 0.22 seconds behind the Wisconsin winner. In the 100 breast, Braun came within 0.13 of first with a time of 1:02.91 to take second. Swimming the second leg of the 200 medley relay, Braun helped the Triton women to a fourth place finish with a 28.39 100 breast swim.
Freshman
Charlie Franz took on No. 18 Wisconsin on Saturday, Jan. 4 and posted two top five finishes. The distance freestyler swam a 9:33.78 time in the 1000 free to take third in the grueling event. Taking fifth in the 500 free, the newcomer posted a time of 4:39.56 to finish 0.8 seconds behind his senior teammate in fourth.
In the MSPF Conference, the Tritons tallied a total of 26 weekly award winners and now have tallied five in the Big West. This Franz's first collegiate conference honors and Braun's first Big West weekly honor recognition.
UP NEXT
The Tritons head north to USC to take on the top 25 ranked Trojans in a dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 11. The meet is set to begin at 12 p.m. in Los Angeles.
