TEMPE, Ariz. – UC San Diego newcomer
Julia Haynes was victorious at No. 1 singles, but the Tritons fell by a 6-1 score to Arizona State on Saturday afternoon at Whiteman Tennis Center. Haynes knocked off 24th-ranked Emilija Tverijonaite in two sets to get the Tritons on the scoreboard.
The Sun Devils won all three doubles courts and five singles to claim the victory in the annual meeting between the two sides.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Haynes, a grad transfer, gave the Tritons their first singles win of the young season, a straight sets 6-3, 7-5 triumph at No. 1 over ASU's Emilija Tverijonaite – ranked No. 24 by the ITA.
The Sun Devils proved too tough on the other courts, capturing five victories in two sets apiece on courts two through six.
Earlier Saturday afternoon in doubles play, ASU won all three matches by a 6-3 score to capture the doubles point.
