UC San Diego Falls in Three Sets at Davis

The Tritons fell to the Aggies, 24-26, 21-25 and 15-25

DAVIS, Calif.—UC San Diego women's volleyball fell to UC Davis, 3-0, to wrap up the first week of Big West play on the road.
 
The Tritons (7-6, 1-1 Big West) fell to the Aggies (6-5, 1-1 Big West) in straight sets, 24-26, 21-25 and 15-25 on Saturday afternoon in University Credit Union Center. 
 
Ava McInnes finished with 10 kills and 12 digs for her fourth double-double, while Kylie Pries and Emily McDaniel added nine and seven kills respectively. Audrey Hollis recorded a double-double with 27 assists and 11 digs.
 
McDaniel and Hollis led the Tritons with two blocks apiece and Kayla Uhlick collected a team-high 13 digs. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Aggies took an early 5-1 lead in set one, but the Tritons quickly answered with a five-point run to pull in front 6-5. UC Davis pulled in front again 15-11 and maintained the advantage down the stretch. The Aggies held a 22-16 lead late in the set before UC San Diego rallied late to make it 23-21. The Tritons held off three set points before UCD eventually took the opening frame, 26-24. 
 
The teams traded a two-point swing for the majority of the second set, battling all the way to a 21-21 tie. The Aggies closed out the frame with a four-point run to take the set, 25-21, and lead the match, 2-0.
 
UC Davis carried the momentum into the final set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead and forcing an early timeout for the Tritons. UC San Diego closed to within one point, 7-6, but the Aggies hit .379 in the set and outscored the Tritons, 18-9, to close out the set and earn the sweep.
 
TRITON TIDBITS UP NEXT
After playing its last 10 matches on the road, UC San Diego will return to LionTree Arena next week for its Big West home opener. The Tritons will host Long Beach State on Thursday and face Hawai'i on Friday—both matches are scheduled for 6 p.m. The matches will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live statistics will be available via UCSDTritons.com.
