WASHINGTON D.C. – Carter Jacobus led the Tritons to a draw in Annapolis on Tuesday night as Navy was able to find the equalizer late in the match for 1-1 result.
UC San Diego moves to 1-4-4 and Navy 2-4-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The two squads remained scoreless after the first 45 despite tallying a combined eight shots. Each team forced the other to make one save and the Tritons earned five corner shots.
The second 45 was more of the same as each team tallied shots searching for the go-ahead goal. UC San Diego took a total of seven shots with two on goal. Navy tallied nine of their own with four on target. Making a hard attack into the box,
Brian Arens drew a hard foul and earned the gold and blue a penalty kick.
In the 71st minute,
Carter Jacobus found the elusive go-ahead goal as he put the penalty kick just out of reach of the Navy keeper.
Losing ground, Navy put the pressure on the Tritons immediately, forcing three corner kicks and four saves. It wasn't until the 86th minute that the Midshipmen were able to find footing on a long shot and draw even with UC San Diego.
Time ran out before the Tritons were able to retake the lead.
