LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego men's soccer fell in a Wednesday night friendly match versus San Diego State with a final result of 3-1. The match was a physical one as five yellow cards were doled out between the two squads and 23 fouls tallied.
 
Putting the pressure on in the second half, Andrew Valverde found the back of the net with an assist from Max Carvalho to disrupt the shutout.

Triton seniors made the breakaway play after the ball was sent up the field to Carvalho on the left wing with Valverde making the run on the right. Pulling the defense to the left, Carvalho was able to poke the ball through and Valverde buried it in the 73rd minute.

UC San Diego continues preseason play with one more friendly on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Triton Soccer Stadium in La Jolla. They open regular season play on Thursday, Aug. 22 against Santa Clara University.
