LA JOLLA, Calif.—UC San Diego women's volleyball has released the full 2024 schedule, as announced by first-year head coach Melanie Greene.
After playing an exhibition match at San Diego State (Aug. 24), the Tritons are set to begin their first season of full NCAA Division I eligibility on Aug. 30. In the season opener, the Tritons will host Northern Arizona as part of the UC San Diego Invitational in LionTree Arena. In total, UC San Diego will play 11 non-conference opponents spread across four different tournaments before Big West play begins Sept. 26.
"Scheduling for us is about testing our team," said Greene. "While building confidence to prepare for the Big West season. We're excited about the various match ups we will encounter this pre-season. Some teams will be tougher match ups, yet every team we face will challenge us. Our squad is ready for the opportunity be challenged and adapt, as we prepare for a tough conference."
The UC San Diego Invitational will continue Aug. 31 against Southern Utah and wrap up on Sept. 1 against Gonzaga. The Tritons will also host three neutral matches between the participating teams during the weekend.
The next three weeks will see the Tritons on the road for three challenging tournaments. First up, UC San Diego will travel to Annapolis, Md. For the Kristen Dickmann Invitational hosted at Navy (Sept. 6-8). UC San Diego will face Cornell, Liberty and Navy across the weekend schedule.
The third week of the season, the Tritons are set to travel to Harrisonburg, Va. for the Erie Insurance Invitational hosted at James Madison (Sept. 12-13). UC San Diego will face the host on Thursday and take on Western Michigan in a neutral match on Friday.
In their final weekend of non-conference play, the Tritons are set to travel up the freeway to the SoCal Cup hosted at USC (Sept. 19-21). Participants in the three-day event include Loyola Marymount, UNLV and USC.
The Tritons will then open their conference schedule on the road at UC Riverside (Sept. 26) and UC Davis (Sept 28).
UC San Diego will kick off its Big West home schedule by hosting the two 2023 Big West Championship finalists on back-to-back evenings in LionTree Arena. On Oct. 3 the Tritons will take on runner-up Long Beach State and face off with 2023 champion Hawai'i the following evening.
