Fencing Releases 2024-25 Schedule

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego head fencing coach Juan Ignacio Calderon announced his team's 2024-25 schedule on Tuesday afternoon. The Tritons' slate features a total of five regular season meets ahead of at least two postseason competitions in the spring. UC San Diego will be competing both close to home and across the country throughout both the fall and spring.

UC San Diego is ecstatic to host the 28th annual BladeRunner Tournament beginning on Sept. 14 at LionTree Arena where over 800 high-level fencers from the San Diego area compete on strips across the gym. The Tritons will then wrap up their fall season just under two months later in San Diego as they will host the West Invitational off campus at Sol City about 20 minutes east of campus in Scripps Ranch.

"Having a strong schedule is imperative to test our progress towards becoming a top 10 program in the NCAA," Calderon said. "To do that we need to test ourselves against the best teams and that is exactly what we are going to do again this season. It will be particularly exciting to host the West Invitational in November with top teams like Ohio State, North Carolina, Stanford, Northwestern and Air Force already confirmed and the current NCAA Champions Harvard."

Following the start of the new year, UC San Diego will be heading east for some key competitions as they will return to the Philadelphia Invitational the weekend of Jan. 17, and will then return to action the first weekend in February to compete at the Northwestern Duals in Evanston beginning Feb. 1.

The Tritons will then turn their attention to postseason action in March, beginning first with the NCAA Regionals on March 8, followed by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation on March 9. Both meets will be held at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

Wrapping up the 2024-25 fencing calendar is the 2025 NCAA National Championships which will be held at Penn State University from March 20-24, as the best collegiate fencers in the nation compete.

Last season, UC San Diego fencing put together a tremendous campaign that saw four Triton scholar-athletes reach the NCAA Championships.
