Triton Athletics Videographer Andrew Fischer Recognized with USFCA Excellence in Communications Award

LA JOLLA, Calif. — The United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) has recognized UC San Diego's Andrew Fischer with the organization's annual Excellence in Communications Award.

The honor celebrates one individual each year who provided strong multimedia support and coverage of NCAA fencing during the previous season. The award was determined by a nationwide vote of USFCA member fencing programs.

As the assistant director, creative video for UC San Diego Athletics, Fischer directs creative video strategy for the department's 24 sports and leads the creative video team in all aspects of the video-making process. His videos are a key part of the department's media strategy, including the fencing team's social media channels.

"Over his years at UC San Diego, Andrew has developed a unique eye for fencing, producing iconic work for numerous events," fencing head coach Juan Ignacio Calderon said. "Andrew uses a distinct visual language for fencing that is a rare combination of being accurate, innovative and visually appealing. His work has had a meaningful impact on how our program and the sport of fencing is seen and appreciated."

Fischer has been at UC San Diego since October 2021. He is a graduate of Long Beach State, where he completed a bachelor's of fine arts degree with an emphasis in photography in 2018.
