LA JOLLA, Calif. – As the 2023-24 athletic year has come to an end along with UC San Diego's transition to Division I, Triton scholar-athletes were celebrated and recognized for their excellence by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics on Thursday evening. The 2024 Triton Awards took place on a beautiful evening at the Epstein Family Amphitheater on the UC San Diego campus under lovely conditions.
Triton scholar-athletes were recognized for their achievements during the 2023-24 academic year in athletic competitions, in the classroom, and in serving their community.
"Finally, after four long years our transition to Division I is over!," UC San Diego Director of Athletics Earl W. Edwards said. "I would like to pay tribute to all the Triton scholar-athletes who have sacrificed so much over the last four years. You have competed at the highest level, trained with a positive attitude and represented UC San Diego with distinction despite knowing a lot of you weren't allowed to compete for conference and national championships. You have all been through a lot and come through with flying colors and I salute each and everyone of you, and I can't wait to see what next season brings!"
In total, 75 UC San Diego scholar-athletes rose above the pack to earn All-Conference honors across The Big West, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and Coastal Athletic Association. Four scholar-athletes were also recognized for performing at the highest level of their sports, earning All-American honors. UC San Diego's four All-Americans from the 2023-24 season were as follows:
Bennett Axline,
