RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC San Diego split the opening day of the Lance Up Invite, falling in game one to Sacramento State in a 3-2 decision and then defeating Harvard 4-2 in the second game.

The Tritons are now 5-16 while Sac State improves to 12-6 and Harvard moves to 8-2.

Getting the start in game one,
Shelby Thompson gave up three runs on seven hits and walked four.
India Caldwell came in to relieve Thompson for the seventh inning to allow two hits and fanned a batter. At the plate,
Alexa DeMarse was 1-for-3 with two runs batted in.
Morgan Eng got on base in her three at-bats with two hits and a walk.

Starting game two,
India Caldwell tossed a complete game to earn the win allowing only two runs on eight hits and a walk. The right-hander is now 3-5 overall.
Deena Pederson went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored.
Hailey Mulligan added her support with two runs batted in on her lone hit. The sophomore extends her hitting streak to 10 games.
SACRAMENTO STATE 3, UC SAN DIEGO 2
The Hornets struck first scoring single runs in the first, third, and fifth innings. It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth when the Tritons struck.

After winning the walk,
Lexi O'Gorman became the lead runner for the gold and blue.
Hailey Mulligan then powered a double to left field to advance O'Gorman to third.
Alexa DeMarse's single to left center brought O'Gorman in from third and Mulligan hustled to score from second.
Brooklyn Lee hit another single to left field to advance DeMarse into scoring position. The next two Tritons fell to strand the tying and go-ahead runs.

In the seventh inning,
India Caldwell allowed two hits, but stranded the runners after winning a seven pitch at-bat to strike the batter out looking.
UC SAN DIEGO 4, HARVARD 2
Getting on the board first, UC San Diego scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning. On two back-to-back errors from Harvard,
Deena Pederson and
Lexi O'Gorman were on base for
Hailey Mulligan. The sophomore cracked a double to plate Pederson from third and advance O'Gorman to third. On a sac fly from
Alexa DeMarse, O'Gorman scored to make the score 2-0.

Pederson led off the next scoring sequence in the sixth with a double powered to left field. O'Gorman laced a single up the middle to put runners on the corners. On a passed ball, O'Gorman advanced to third and Pederson was able to score. The fourth and final run came in when O'Gorman scored on another passed ball.

Harvard was able to score two runs, but were unable to overcome Caldwell in the circle.

- Game one was the Tritons first game without an error since the season opener.
