J'Raan Brooks earned accolades for his hard work both in the classroom and on the court, being named to the Academic All-District Team as announced by College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday. Brooks will now move on to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot.
J'Raan Brooks (Seattle, Wash.) is an ethnic studies major with a minor in communications, posting a 3.54 grade point average. On the court, Brooks started all 41 games in which he played at UC San Diego, averaging 5.5 points and nearly four rebounds per game as a senior. This past season, Brooks shot 45% overall and 40% from beyond the three-point arc.
The 2023-24 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — for each gender.
To be eligible, student-athletes must hold a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must have played in 67% of the team's games. Freshmen are not eligible for consideration.
The Tritons recently wrapped up their fourth Division I season, posting a 21-12 record and finishing second in The Big West. UC San Diego earned its first Division I postseason berth, competing in the Ro College Basketball Invitational.
