DAVIS, Calif.—UC San Diego baseball defeated UC Davis, 2-1, in another low-scoring contest on Sunday afternoon at Dobbins Stadium. With the win, the Tritons (16-5, 3-2 Big West) even the series with the Aggies (11-10, 2-3 Big West).
Â
For the second game in a row, the Tritons got a career-long performance out of their starter.
Matthew Dalquist pitched 7.1 innings, allowing one run on seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
Izaak Martinez (2-0) earned the win, coming in for the final 1.2 innings and allowing one hit collecting one strikeout.Â
Â
Michael Crossland was the only Triton with a multi-hit day, finishing 2-for-4, while

Emiliano Gonzalez was credited with the other RBI in the contest.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Similar to game one, the Aggies struck first, scoring their only run of the ballgame in the bottom of the first inning. After a leadoff triple, UC Davis brought in the first run of the day with an RBI ground-out to make it 1-0.
Â
The Aggies threatened in the second, third and fourth with runners in scoring position each inning. But Dalquist remained composed, and the Tritons played solid defense to keep it a one-run.
Â
In the top of the sixth, UC San Diego got its first real opportunity of the day with runners on the corners and one out. Gonzalez knocked a sac-fly to left field to bring in
Nick Costello and tie the game, 1-1.
Â
It looked as if UC Davis would break the tie in the bottom of the inning after getting two runners on with no outs. Gonzalez picked off the lead runner at second, Dalquist got his fifth strikeout and Gonzalez ended the inning by throwing out an attempted steal at second to keep the game knotted at 1-all.
Â
After Dalquist secured the first out of the eighth, Martinez entered to retire the next two Aggies in order and send the game to the ninth.
Â
In the top of inning, Rosengard singled to left field with one out and stole second to give the Tritons a chance at the lead. Preap then knocked a double to the wall in right center to score Rosengard and make it 2-1.
Â
After a one-out single by the Aggies, Martinez forced a fly-out to right and a pop-up to short to secure his second victory of the season.
