LONG BEACH, Calif. – Braving the southern California rain, UC San Diego track and field wrapped the season opener in Long Beach with 39 top ten finishes, 18 of which were top five finishes.

ON THE WOMEN'S SIDE
On the field side,
Tamara Aimufia and
Kate MacNaughton led the way in the long jump and high jump. Aimufia placed third in the long jump with a distance of 5.91m.
Tia Stapleton finished eighth with a distance of 5.75m in the same event. MacNaughton placed second with a height of 1.61m in the high jump. She was joined by
Lauren Pritchard who finished fourth with a height of 1.56m.

Aimufia earned another top five finish in the triple jump with a distance of 11.82m to take fourth. She was joined by
Chidiebere Agunanne who took fifth with a 11.76m mark, and
Julia Di Silvestri finished eighth with a distance of 11.20m.

In the 400m dash, three Tritons finished in the top 10 with
Amari Jenkins leading the way in fifth with a time of 57.53. She was followed by
Idara Ibekwe in seventh with a time of 58.14 and
Jordyn Thomas in eighth with a time of 58.8.
Kate O'Malley represented in the 100m finishing in eighth with a time of 12.21. In the 200m,
Maxine Schultz took sixth with a time of 24.35. MacNaughton earned another top five finish in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:03.00 to take third. She was followed by
Gloria Kalt in fifth with a time of 1:04.54 andÂ
Kathryn Tamminga in ninth who hurdled a time of 1:08.08.

The distance crew went to work with
Sylvana Northrop and
Norah Dulaney leading the way in the 3000m taking first and second place. They were joined by
Stella Gladden in ninth who ran a time of 10:23.42.
Emma Dunmire added another stellar distance performance taking third in the 1500m with a time of 4:40.65. In the 800m,
Isabelle Shepherd finished sixth with a time of 2:17.60 and
Camille Lindsay joined her with a time of 2:19.69 finishing 10th.

The two relay teams posted two top five finishes. In the 4x400 relay,
Lauren Schiele, Ibekwe, MacNaughton, and Schultz ran a fast 3:45.32 to take first. The 4x4 squad was three seconds away from the program record. O'Malley, Ibekwe, Schultz, and
Leila Kepler took third with a time of 47.09.

ON THE MEN'S SIDE
Matthew Amankonah returned after a great day one at the meet to take the top mark in shot put. The senior posted a mark of 16.43m to take sixth.
Nathan Tripp added his top 10 mark with a distance of 15.87m to finish tenth. Jumping a distance of 14.46m in the triple jump,
Nathan Yoder finished third. He was joined by
Zavier Annis who took seventh with a distance of 13.58m.

The sprinters posted eight top 10 finishes. Winning the 200m dash,
Anthony Flowers posted a program top 10 all-time at 21.23. The freshman now holds the number two spot on the all-time list.
Nolan Crespo took sixth in the same event with a time of 21.74.
Frank McGowan joined his teammates to take ninth with a time of 21.87. Earning another top 10 finish, Flowers ran a time of 10.79 to take eighth in the 100m dash. In the 400 hurdles,
Liam Urich took eighth with a time of 58.68 and
Jeremy Frank finished just behind him in ninth with a time of 58.71.
Representing in the 3000m, five Triton men took top 10 finishes with
Zeno Castiglioni winning the event. The senior posted a time of 8:24.19 with teammate
Luke Stefanou coming in second at 8:30.98.
Andrew Schulz took fourth with a time of 8:33.66,
Charlie Frank finished sixth with a time of 8:33.94, and
Jordan Haney posted a time of 8:35.94 to take seventh.

Taking second in the 4x100m relay, Crespo, Flowers, J. Frank, and
Jett Collins posted a time of 41.97. In the 4x400, McGowan,
Jake Heinlein, Collins, and Flowers who finished sixth with a time of 3:22.95.
