HOW IT HAPPENED
Competing in their 11th home match of the 2024 season, the Tritons dropped the initial doubles point on Sunday as the Vandals picked up wins at the one and two spots in the lineup. Building off their strong end to doubles, the Tritons would go on to win four of the five completed matches as Carson Lee, Diogo Tinoco, Pelayo Rodriguez and Zach Pellouchoud each got the job done to help UC San Diego earn the win on their home courts.

QUOTABLE
  • "We had an intense start again in doubles falling short to go down in the doubles point," UC San Diego head coach Timmer Willing said. "We had a few match points but Idaho played to great points but Idaho played two great points to defend. Phillip Lan went down with an illness during the match making it a very tense situation. He has been battling all week with his health but we had to go into singles without him. Even without Phil we started great in singles with us getting five out of the six singles first sets. Idaho kept competing to even the matches at three, four and six. The match came down to final sets at four and six with Pelayo clinching the win. It was a full team effort from our players competing as well as those supporting."
