Tritons Top Wildcats on Thursday Afternoon

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Following 11 days away from competition, the UC San Diego men's tennis team (3-10) used their fresh legs to pick up a key 6-1 victory over the Villanova Wildcats on Thursday afternoon at the Northview Tennis Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Getting out of the gates hot, the Tritons were able to sweep the Wildcats in all three matches for just the second time this season as UC San Diego was able to grab the initial doubles point on their home courts.
 
The Tritons didn't relent heading into singles play as they were able to capture five of the six matches that took place on their home courts as Carson Lee, Phillip Lan, Diogo Tinoco, Pelayo Rodriguez and Zach Pellouchoud each earned individual victories against Villanova to secure UC San Diego's third win in their last four matches.

QUOTABLE TRITON TIDBITS
  • Following UC San Diego's slow start to the season the Tritons have now won three of their last four matches all of which have taken place on their home courts.
  • Making his return to the lineup after missing the Tritons' last match against Idaho, Phillip Lan was able to earn a two-set win while competing in the second spot in the lineup. P. Lan improved his record on the season at 2-7 as he's competed in the first or second spot in the singles lineup all season.
  • Carson Lee has continued his recent run of dominance as he's won four straight singles matches at the top of UC San Diego's lineup.
UP NEXT
UC San Diego will be back in action on their home courts this weekend as they're set to welcome the California Golden Bears to La Jolla on Sunday, March 3 for a 3:00 p.m. first serve at the Northview Tennis Courts.
