Tyler McGhie added another award to his resume when he was named Big West Player of the Week Monday afternoon for the second time this season. Earlier Monday, he became the first Triton to garner L
ou Henson National Player of the Week honors.
McGhie paced the Tritons in a pair of road wins last week. The sharpshooter from Denton, Texas scored 26 points and was 6-of-14 from beyond the three-point arc with six rebounds and three steals as the Tritons won at Utah State Tuesday – handing the Aggies their first loss of the season and just their fourth at home in their last 46 games. On Saturday, McGhie matched his season high with 27 points, draining seven-of-10 from beyond the arc as the Tritons downed crosstown foe USD. McGhie's seven threes matched his career high. Over the two games, McGhie averaged 26.5 points and was 13-for-24 from distance (54.2%).
After winning three road games last week, UC San Diego has a nine-game win streak – the program's longest in Division I. The Tritons (11-2) are back at LionTree Arena to host Occidental on Saturday at 4 p.m. Big West play resumes Jan. 4 at Cal State Fullerton.
