SAN DIEGO — UC San Diego fencing concluded the West Invitational on Sunday with winning records for both the men's and women's teams. The men finished with a 4-2 mark while the women went 6-3 across the two-day competition.
Competition took place at the SolCity Sports Center on the Alliant International University campus in San Diego. The invitational was UC San Diego's second competitive event of the fall.
ON THE MEN'S SIDE
The Tritons went 3-1 on Saturday, including a 15-12 victory over Ohio State that was the Buckeyes' only loss of the invitational. UC San Diego then went 1-1 on Sunday. The defeat was a narrow 13-14 result to defending national champions Harvard.
Junior
Sunny Sharma (epee) and sophomore
Hananiah So (saber) both went 12-6 on the weekend. The charge on foil was led by junior
Brandon Kim, who earned a 9-4 record. Both epee and foil finished the invitational 5-1.

ON THE WOMEN'S SIDE
Saturday's 4-2 record featured a 16-11 win over Stanford, the team's first since 2021. The Tritons then finished the competition with a 2-1 Sunday that culminated with all three weapons out-scoring Tufts for a 20-7 victory.
The women's top performer was freshman
Katherine Kim, who finished with a 19-7 record in foil. Epee was the team's best weapon at the invitational with a 7-2 record, with junior
Renee Zuhars (11-6) and sophomore
Natalie Brooke Gebala (11-7) capturing the best individual marks. Junior
Zara Fearns had the Tritons' best saber record at 15-7.
