LA JOLLA, Calif.—UC San Diego women's volleyball dropped a 3-0 decision to CSUN on Friday evening in LionTree Arena.
The Tritons (16-12, 10-7 Big West) fell in straight sets to the Matadors (10-18, 5-12 Big West) by set scores of 26-24, 25-19, 26-24.
Kylie Pries led the Tritons with 9 kills followed by
Emily McDaniel with 8 and
Ava McInnes at six. Pries also led the team with 17 digs. McInnes added her support on defense with 9 of her own digs, while
Emily McDaniel earned 5 blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trading a few quick points, CSUN jumped ahead to 8-4 lead in the opening set and held the Tritons at bay for the rest of the set. UC San Diego battled back in the final points as they went on a four-point run and then a three-point run to bring themselves even with the visitors. A block from
Molly McCluskey and an ace from
Ava McInnes pushed the Tritons ahead for a moment, but the Matadors answered with a three-point run to secure the first set, 26-24.
CSUN found momentum in the second set going on a six-point run to flip the score from 7-4 to 10-7 in their advantage. The Tritons fought for two more points before the visitors went on another run. UC San Diego found momentum as McCluskey,
Kylie Pries, and
Emily McDaniel each buried a kill before forcing a CSUN timeout. Pries put the ball down again bring the Tritons within three at 22-19. The Matadors shut the door as they won the set taking the final three points for a 25-19 result.
In the final set of the night, the two opponents found themselves tied 13 different times. CSUN was two points from taking the final set when Pries put the ball down hard and then the defense forced an attack error to tie the score at 23-23. After a Matador timeout, the Tritons forced a final tie at 24-24 behind another kill from Pries. CSUN was able to take the final set as a service error and kill sealed the set and match.

The Tritons will wrap the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 23 as they celebrate Senior Night and host Cal State Bakersfield. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m. with live stats available on ucsdtritons.com and will stream live on ESPN+.
