Sellers Goal Secures Big West Home Opener for Tritons

UC San Diego defeated CSUN, 1-0, on Saturday evening

LA JOLLA, Calif.—UC San Diego men's soccer secured the victory in the Tritons' Big West home opener, defeating CSUN, 1-0, on Saturday evening in Triton Soccer Stadium.

The Tritons (2-5-4, 1-1-0 Big West) recorded the program's first victory over the Matadors (2-4-4, 0-1-1 Big West) to improve to 1-3 in the all-time series.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons scored the match's lone goal in the 16th minute, after Max Carvalho sent a cross from the right side to Quinn Sellers at the top of the box. CSUN outshot UC San Diego 7-5 in the first half but the Tritons had two shots on target, compared to none for the Matadors.

CSUN threatened midway through the second half, recording its first shot on goal in the 70th minute. The Matadors got their best chance in the 87th minute with three consecutive shots in the span of 10 seconds. However, the Triton defense held strong, blocking the first before Nolan Premack deflected the second and the third sailed high over the crossbar.

Shots were 12-1 in favor of CSUN in the second half, but Premack and the Tritons remained disciplined to secure the clean sheet.
