Tritons Fall to Highlanders

LA JOLLA, Calif.  – UC San Diego men's soccer drops into sixth place after falling to UC Riverside on Wednesday, Oct. 23 in a 1-0 result.
 
UC San Diego moves to 3-4 in Big West play and 4-8-4 overall. The Highlanders move to 2-1-4 in conference play and 4-5-5 overall.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
On their lone shot of the of the first half, visitors UC Riverside scored in the 11th minute to go up 1-0. UC San Diego took nine shots in the first with two on target. The Tritons forced four corners but were unable to convert.
 
Entering the second half down, the Tritons continued their offensive pressure holding a high line against the Highlanders. UC San Diego held possession in their attacking third for 51% of the game and totaled 19 shots after the full 90. A heartbreaker shot came from Kai Oppenheim when he took a long shot from distance and hit the crossbar, missing the equalizer by inches.
 
With only three shots on frame for UC San Diego, they were unable to overcome the deficit and dropped their first conference game at home.
 
TRITON TIDBITS
• Nolan Premack is the only Triton to have played all 90 minutes of the16 matches.
• Max Carvalho, Kai Oppenheim, and Evan Wellerstein took 12 of the 19 shots tonight with two on frame.
• This is the first time the Tritons have been blanked since August 22.
• The all-time vs. series moves to 2-2 after UC San Diego's loss.
