UC San Diego Falls on the Road at Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.  – UC San Diego men's soccer moves into fourth place in the Big West after falling to Cal State Bakersfield on the road in a 3-1 result.

UC San Diego moves to 3-3 in Big West play and 4-7-4 overall. The Roadrunners improve to 3-1-2 in conference play and 6-3-4 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The hosts struck early in the match as loose ball across the top of the box was buried by the Roadrunners in the fourth minute of the match. Thirty seconds later, on a breakaway, Cal State Bakersfield netted the insurance goal. The score remained 2-0 for the rest of the first half despite the Tritons taking four shots with two on frame and a set play off a corner kick.

UC San Diego remained scoreless until the 80th minute when Andrew Valverde found the back of the net on an assist from Carter Jacobus. This is Valverde's third goal of the season and Jacobus' first assist. The Tritons' deficit jumped back to two when Cal State Bakersfield score for a third time just a minute later.

In the second half, UC San Diego was only able to put two shots on frame of the six they took. Nolan Premack faced 17 shots total with five saves.
