SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The two UC San Diego cross country squads headed north on Saturday morning for the Cougar Challenge at Cal State San Marcos where
Isabelle Shepherd had a career-best second-place finish along with
Jordan Haney and
Ian Gerth leading the men in 17th and 19th.
The women finished third with 84 points and the men's team finished fourth with 139 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cougar Challenge opened with the women's 6K race with
Isabelle Shepherd and
Emma Dunmire leading the group of Tritons as they have so far through three meets this season.
Shepherd finished in second place with a time of 20:52.4 which is a career-best placement for the senior. Dunmire followed in 14th with a time of 21:36.9.
Norah Dulaney was hot on her heels with a time of 21:40.8 to finish in 16th.
On the men's side,
Jordan Haney continues to lead the Tritons as the top-finisher and today was no different. The senior finished 17th in a field of 181 runners with a time of 25:11.2.
Ian Gerth finished 19th for a notable performance by the senior.

RUNNING UNATTACHED
On the women's side,
Sylvana Northrop finished eighth with a time of 21:19.8
Kelsie Yamano ran a close race with Dumire and Dulaney to finish 18th with a time of 21:42.1.
Charlie Frank led the men's side with an 11th place finish at 24:57.6 with
Rory Catsimanes following in 14th with a time of 25:04.8.
UP NEXT
The two squads will take a trip east to Columbia, Mo. For the Gans Creek Classic hosted by the Mizzou Tigers on Friday, Sep. 29.
