SANTA CLARA, Calif. – On the road at Santa Clara University, the Tritons men's soccer team drew even with the Broncos in 2-2 result after two second half goals from
Iñaki Iribarren.
Entering the game with the same record, the Tritons now move to 1-4-2 and the Broncos earn their first tie of the season for a 1-4-1 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a hard-fought battle in Santa Clara as the Broncos dominated in the first half with four corners and seven shots to the Tritons single shot and single corner kick. Going up 1-0 on the gold and blue, SCU found the back of the net in the 23rd minute. The half finished with zero Triton shots on goal.
Coming out in the second half, the Tritons upped the attack with six shots, four of which were on goal. Equalizing in the 53rd minute, UC San Diego's senior duo
Alessandro Allen and
Iñaki Iribarren connected on a forward pass into the box that Iribarren buried on a header.
In the 71st minute, the Tritons went ahead on a great double assist from
Connor Place and
Max Carvalho who found Iribarren in the box for the brace and the lead.
As time dwindled, both teams looked for the game-winner and play grew physical with a total of five yellow cards dealt to both teams.

Jon Pascale commented, "I am really proud of the guys for how hard they fought in the second half and the way they collected themselves after a difficult first half." He said, "we came out on the front foot and got back in the game with a couple great goals."
"Credit to Santa Clara for fighting their way back in the game as well. We continued to press for a game winner and had a couple great looks that their keeper saved. We are looking forward to keeping the momentum going and battling a very good cross town rival in USD next week," he added.
