Tritons Battle 'Lopes in Wednesday Exhibition

UC San Diego will make home debut on Saturday

NORCO, Calif. – The UC San Diego women's soccer program kicked off its preseason exhibition schedule on Wednesday afternoon, with the Tritons falling to Grand Canyon by a 1-0 score at Silver Lakes Park. No official stats were kept for the competition.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The 'Lopes scored the lone goal of the match in the third period, with GCU's Destinee Duran-Wise scoring off a corner kick.

QUOTABLE
"Overall, this was a very important 90 minutes for entire roster," said UC San Diego head coach Kristin Jones. "We introduced some new tactics, the roles for many of our returners have shifted, and getting minutes against an opponent in a game-setting was very productive. As to be expected, we had some nerves and it wasn't as clean as we need it to be, but we'll have an opportunity to clean some things up on Saturday."

TRITON TIDBITS
  • Temperature at game time was 84 degrees with 53% humidity.
  • In order to maximize participation, the teams played three 30-minute periods.
  • For the Tritons, 21 scholar-athletes saw action in Wednesday's match.
  • UC San Diego is set to compete in its third Division I season. The Big West's preseason coaches' poll will be announced on Thursday.
