UC San Diego Graduates Class of 2023 Scholar-Athletes at Commencement

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego held commencement for the Class of 2023 from Saturday, June 17 through Sunday, June 18 on RIMAC Field.

UC San Diego alumnus John A. Pérez delivered the commencement address to the Class of 2023 at the All Campus Commencement Saturday. A California Assembly speaker emeritus and UC Regent, Pérez affirmed the power that each graduate has to make change, whether they become an elected official or not. He demonstrated this potential by sharing his own story that began in a working-class community on the east side of Los Angeles.

Sunday, separate ceremonies were held for each undergraduate college: Revelle, Muir, Marshall, Warren, Roosevelt, Sixth, and Seventh, as well as the Graduate Division for Masters and Doctoral Students, the Rady School of Management, and the School of Global Policy and Strategy.

Senior Adam Walker of the UC San Diego men's soccer team graduated this past weekend, earning a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

"Waking up, playing with [the team] every single day, and getting to live with them too, was definitely more than I could have ever asked for out of a college experience," reflected Walker.

Walker's vision is to travel around Europe after graduation before pursuing a career in environmental engineering.
