SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – UC San Diego softball split the opening games of the series vs. Cal Poly. Taking game one of the series, the Tritons won by holding onto a single run advantage, 4-3, and fell in the second game to a 6-1 result in favor of the Mustangs.

Getting the start in game one,
Jada Cecil tossed five innings allowing three runs on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Getting the save,
Kaia Simpson came on as relief for the final two innings. The senior shutout the Mustangs allowing no runs or hits with three walks and one strikeout. Cecil moves to 11-10 with the win.

At the plate,
Bobbi Aguirre was 1-for-2 with an RBI, a walk, and a run scored.
Morgan Eng was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base.
Clarissa Reynoso's lone hit was a base clearing double that drove in three runs to secure the Tritons' win.

In game two,
Gabby Williams got the start for the gold and blue. The lefty allowed two runs on four hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
Shelby Thompson came on in as relief and allowed four runs (only one earned) on five hits with no walks. Williams moves to 4-11 with the loss.

At the plate,
Sophia Real was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Bobbi Aguirre was 1-for-3 with one run scored.
UC SAN DIEGO 4, CAL POLY 3
The seniors led the way in game one of the doubleheader with two doubles generating all four runs.
Bobbi Aguirre led the way with the first strike in the top of the fourth inning.
Morgan Eng laced a single to the shortstop to reach safely after beating out the throw. She proceeded to steal second for her 35th steal of the season. With two outs on the board, Aguirre stepped up to crack a long double to right center to score Eng and take the lead, 1-0.

The Mustangs responded in the bottom with two runs to take the lead. They remained in the lead until the top of the sixth.

The Tritons hung three runs on the board to take the lead back. After battling an 11-pitch at-bat,
Morgan Eng was able to reach on a Mustang error.
Marissa Hassis was able to reach on a fielder's choice and advance Eng to second. A fly out from
Keila Bosinger advanced Eng to third. On an intentional walk, Aguirre loaded the bases for the Tritons. On a 2-2 count with two outs on the board,
Clarissa Reynoso doubled to left center to clear the bases and go up 4-3.

Cal Poly responded in the bottom with a lone run but were unable to overcome the deficit.
Kaia Simpson shut the Mustangs out for the final two innings giving up no hits or runs.

CAL POLY 6, UC SAN DIEGO 1
The Mustangs struck first in game two going up 2-0 until the fourth inning when the Tritons pulled within one.

Singling through the right side,
Bobbi Aguirre became the lead runner for the Tritons. A sac bunt from
Clarissa Reynoso advanced Aguirre to second.
Sophia Real brought Aguirre home on a hard hit single out to left field.

The Tritons wouldn't score another run and Cal Poly would go on to score four more in the sixth to win the game with the final of 6-1.

TRITON TIDBITS
- This only the third Big West doubleheader in which the Tritons have tallied a win.
- Bobbi Aguirre tallied her eighth double of the year and her 22nd RBI.
- Morgan Eng swiped a base in game one to move to 35-36 on the base paths this season.
- UC San Diego still leads the all-time vs. series against Cal Poly at 5-3.
