Tritons Clinch Series Over Aggies with Second Consecutive Walk-Off Victory

UC San Diego scored four runs in the ninth to defeat UC Davis, 6-5, on Friday night

LA JOLLA, Calif.—For the second consecutive night, UC San Diego baseball came up clutch in the ninth inning, scoring four runs for its second-straight walk-off victory over UC Davis, 6-5. With the win, the Tritons (19-9, 9-2 Big West) secured the series over the Aggies (10-16, 3-8 Big West) and moved to 6-3 in the Division I series.

Michael Fuhrman went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI, while Emiliano Gonzalez finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and Patrick Hackworth went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Doyle Kane drove in the winning run, finishing the night with two RBI as well.

Izaak Martinez (4-0) earned his second win in as many nights, closing out the final 2.1 shutout innings without allowing a hit, while striking out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC Davis took a one-run lead in the top of the first with an RBI single. The Tritons tied things up in the bottom of the third on an RBI ground-out by Kane to make it 1-1.

The Aggies reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth and added two more in the top of the sixth to pull in front, 4-1. UC San Diego got one run back in the bottom of the sixth on a sac-fly by Crew Robinson, but UCD responded right away with a run in the seventh to build its lead back to three, 5-2.

After being retired in order in the seventh and eighth, the Tritons attempted a rally one last time in the bottom of the ninth.

Robinson and Hackworth both reached base after being hit by pitches, bringing Fuhrman—the hero of the previous night's walk off—to the plate with one out. Fuhrman hit a booming double off the wall in left field to score both runners and make it a one-run game, 4-5.

Halbach brought in Fuhrman from second with a single through the right side and advanced into scoring position on the throw home. Kane sent a 1-0 pitch up the middle to bring in Halbach for the winning run.
