LA JOLLA, Calif.— Headed north to Davis, the Tritons will play a three-game series vs. the UC Davis Aggies. The series starts on Saturday, April 22 with an afternoon doubleheader followed by a Sunday morning match up on April 23.

The Aggies enter the series at 10-5 in Big West play and 24-13 overall. UC Davis is on a one-game losing after taking the first two over CSUN but dropping the final game of the series. The Aggies have only dropped games to Cal State Fullerton (1), Long Beach (3), and CSUN (1). They are currently third in Big West standings behind Fullerton and Long Beach.

The Tritons are currently 5-10 in Big West and 15-25 overall. UC San Diego has dropped the past four series to UC Santa Barbara, Hawai'i, Long Beach State, and were mostly recently swept by Cal State Fullerton. On a five-game skid, the Tritons have dropped to eighth place in Big West standings.

Dropping their fourth consecutive series, UC San Diego was swept by Cal State Fullerton after the Tritons fell in the final two games of the series on Saturday, April 15.

Jada Cecil allowed five runs on six hits with a walk and two strikeouts. The right-hander took the loss, moving to 7-9 on the season. Coming in as relief,Â
Gabby Williams tossed two innings and allowed one run on one hit with a walk and two strikeouts.Â
Kaia Simpson finished in the circle and gave up no runs in her two innings. The senior gave up two hits, two walks, and recorded two strikeouts.

At the plate the Tritons struggled to get their bats going at the right times to be shutout for the second time by the Titans. Leading UC San Diego,Â

Shelby Thompson got the start in the circle. The lefty gave up one run on five hits with one walk over 4.2 innings of work. Thompson was credited with the loss and moves to 2-4 this season.Â
Gabby Williams came on for 1.1 innings and gave up one earned run on three hits with a walk. An error caused an unearned run to be scored during her time.Â
Kaia Simpson finished again in the circle, this time going for one inning with a strikeout and a hit.

CSF held the Tritons to a .083 batting average with only two hits recorded and seven Tritons striking out.Â

Jada Cecil earns preseason recognition as she is named to the 2023 Big West Preseason Coaches' Team after a breakout rookie campaign.

Cecil returns to the circle for the Tritons after a dominant rookie season. Tossing 230 strikeouts over 174.1 innings of work with an ERA of 1.62, Cecil went 20-4 in the regular season for the gold and blue.

She broke three records in the 2022 season: the single-game high strikeouts, and the individual season-high strikeouts, and assisted the pitching staff in snapping the 20-year-old team single-season strikeout record as well.

The right-hander earned Big West Pitcher and Freshman Pitcher of the Year, making the conference First Team and All-Freshman team. Recognized nationally, she was a Top 10 Finalist for Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I Freshman of the Year and earned NFCA West Region Second Team honors.

In the 2022 season, the Tritons finished with an even record overall (28-28) and a winning record in The Big West (15-12). It was a historical season as the Tritons made their first NCAA DI postseason appearance at the NISC Tournament in Colorado. They were the first UC San Diego team to make a DI postseason appearance.
