EL MACERO, Calif. - UC San Diego men's golf shaved 10 strokes off its Monday total during Tuesday's second round at the El Macero Classic.
UC Davis is hosting the three-day, 20-school tournament at El Macero Country Club.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After totaling a 304 (+16) in Monday's opening round, the Tritons came back Tuesday and carded a 294 (+6). They remain in 19th place in the standings with a two-round total of 598 (+22) on the par-72, 7,127-yard layout.
Three of five UC San Diego players improved their individual scores Tuesday.
Calvin Kong is the top Triton after two rounds, tied for 67th. He had a 77 Monday and shot a 72 Tuesday.
Davis McDowell, tied for 71st, went from a 77 to a 73 and
Davis Lee, tied for 77th, improved from a 78 to a 73.
Loyola Marymount and San Francisco are tied for first place at nine-under par. Cal State Fullerton sits in third at seven-under.
USF's Matthew Anderson leads the 100-player field at nine-under. He is just a single stroke ahead of UCLA's Omar Morales and Fresno State's Matthew Sutherland.

Davis McDowell has been the Tritons' top finisher in six of nine tournaments this season.
• Eight teams nationally-ranked in the top-100, including two in the top-50, are competing including San Francisco (45), San Diego (47), California (51), Long Beach State (58), UCLA (74), Fresno State (81), Santa Clara (87), and Loyola Marymount (97).
• There are five Big West schools represented including Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State, UC Davis, and UC San Diego.
• This is the second and final three-day tourney for the Tritons this season (Visit Stockton Invitational, Oct. 20-22).
