ELKHART, Ind. – UC San Diego began competition at the CSCAA National Invitational Championships on Thursday, March 9. On day one of the national meet, the Tritons reached the podium four different times and a team record was set by
Tina Reuter in the finals.

After day one, the Triton women reside in third place with 171.5 points just behind Indiana University – Bloomington and University of Tennessee. The Triton men reside in eighth place with 105.5 points behind IUB by 11.5 points.

During the prelims on Thursday morning, nearly every Triton that swam set a season best in their event. To move on to finals, swimmers must make one of the top 20 times for the B and A final in the evenings. Only relays will score points at the NIC.

ON THE WOMEN'S SIDE
Beginning finals with the 200 yard freestyle relay,
Miranda Renner,
Tina Reuter,
Josette Odgers, and
Jordan Phillips took second place with a time of 1:30.88. In the 50 yard backstroke, Phillips finished sixth with a time of 25.23. Swimming the daunting 500 yard freestyle on the first day of the meet,
Juli Arzave posted a time of 4:50.81 to finish eighth.

Taking fifth in the 50 yard breaststroke,
Chloe Braun posted a 28.26 which was a season best for the freshman. Ending the night on a high note, Reuter placed fourth in the 200 yard IM and snapped the team record with a time of 1:59.98.

In the 400 yard medley relay, the Tritons took second with a time of 3:39.13. The relay team was made up of Phillips,
Katja Pavicevic, Renner, and Reuter.

ON THE MEN'S SIDE
In prelims,
Andrija Petkovic set a season best time with a time of 21.96 in the 50 yard backstroke. He went on to finish sixth in finals. Swimming a season best,
Ivan Kurakin finished third with a time of 4:20.17 in the 500 yard freestyle.

The UC San Diego swim teams continues competing at the CSCAA NIC through Sunday. Prelims begin at 9:30 am ET with finals taking place each night at 6 pm ET.
