LA JOLLA, Calif. – For the second straight season, a UC San Diego freshman has been named the top freshman in the Big West by the web site HoopsHD.com. Point guard Roddie Anderson III takes home the accolade this season after Francis Nwaokorie garnered the recognition in 2022.
 
Anderson left his mark on The Big West as a freshman, leading all freshmen in scoring at 15.8 points per game during league play. His 3.9 assists per league game also led Big West freshmen. For the season, the Huntington Beach native ranked second on the team in scoring at 13.1 points per game. He scored over 20 points in each of the Tritons' final three games, including 25 with a personal-best six three-pointers in UC San Diego's win at first place UC Irvine.

The Tritons recently concluded their third season of Big West play, finishing with 10 wins overall and five against conference foes. The 2022-23 season marked the third of UC San Diego's NCAA-mandated four-year reclassification period to Division I status.
