Three Tritons Earn All-Big West Honors

Sydney Brown, Izzy Forsyth and Junae Mahan earned all-conference recognition

IRVINE, Calif.—Three Tritons were honored by The Big West in the 2022-23 all-conference post-season awards, as announced Monday. Sydney Brown was named to the All-Big West Second Team for the third consecutive season, Izzy Forsyth received All-Big West Honorable Mention and Junae Mahan was named to The Big West All-Freshman Team.
 
Sydney Brown finished seventh in the conference in scoring, averaging 13.0 points per game. The Rexford, N.Y. native also finished second in rebounding (7.2 per game), ninth in free throw percentage (.820), and 14th in three-pointers per game (1.2). Brown recorded her 1,000th career point and 700th career rebound this season, making her the fourth Triton in program history to reach both milestones. The graduate student finishes her career ranked eighth in the UC San Diego record books in career points (1206) and fifth in career rebounds (717).
 
Izzy Forsyth had a break out sophomore season for the Tritons, averaging 9.5 points per game to rank 22nd in The Big West. The Vancouver native made 22 starts for UC San Diego, averaging 4.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game, finishing third on the team with 286 total points. She also led the team in blocked shots (17) and field goal percentage (.474). 
 
Freshman Junae Mahan averaged 3.0 points and 1.9 rebounds per game in 26 appearances. The Stockton, Calif. native averaged 14.3 minutes per game in her first seasons with the Tritons and recorded a season-high 16 points against UC Santa Barbara on Dec. 31, 2022. 
 
The Tritons finished sixth overall in The Big West with a 10-10 record—their second consecutive season with a conference record of .500 or better in three seasons of Division I competition.
