Kyle Dougherty sits in second place after Monday's first two rounds of the UC San Diego Invitational on the North Course at Torrey Pines.
Dougherty leads a threesome of Tritons that are sitting inside the top-ten as
Elliot Bunyaviroch and
Davis McDowell are tied for 10th place in the 83-player field.
After 36 holes of play, UC San Diego is in 10th place among 15 teams from around the nation.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After shooting a 70 in the opening round on the par-72, 7,258-yard course, Dougherty returned in the second round to fire a 65, which is tied for the second-best round by any player thus far. It is also a career-best round for the sophomore. His 135 total is nine under par. Dougherty, who was tied for 14th after round one, is playing as an individual and his scores do not count towards the team's total.
Bunyaviroch and McDowell are both six-under par with a 138. Bunyaviroch posted rounds of 70 and 68, while McDowell shot a 68 and a 70. Bunyaviroch was also tied for 14th after Monday's first 18 holes.
Also improving their positions from round one to round two were
Calvin Kong (13 spots),
Nathan Tseng (seven spots),
Jerry Wu (three spots), and
Ethan Chen (one spot).
CSUN's Eirik Thomassen is in first place with a 13-under 131 after firing rounds of 68 and 63. His 63 was the low round of the day. Thomassen is one of five players that shot under 70 in both rounds.
As a team, UC San Diego is 10-under par with a 566. The Tritons shot a 284 followed by a 282.
Oklahoma Christian, ranked third in the country in NCAA Division II, leads the pack at 20-under, one stroke ahead of second-place Seattle U. CSUN is in the third spot at 17-under.
Twelve of the 15 teams in contention finished the day under par.
The North Course played to a 71.81 stroke average.
