SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.–Three Tritons scored in double-figures and UC San Diego San Diego women's basketball topped Cal Poly, 60-43, on Thursday evening in Mott Athletic Center. The Tritons (13-16, 10-9 Big West) swept the season series with the Mustangs (9-17, 6-12 Big West) and moved to 5-2 in the all-time series.

Emily Cangelosi led the Tritons with 17 points, while
Izzy Forsyth added 14 and
Julia Macabuhay finished with 12. Cangelosi, Forsyth and
Sydney Brown all finished with a team-best eight rebounds. Macabuhay led the team with five assists, while Cangelosi added four and added a team-best three steals. Forsyth also tallied a career-high three blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams got off to a slow start in the opening quarter before UC San Diego took a 6-2 lead behind all six points from Forsyth. The Tritons closed out the period with a six-point run and took a 12-4 advantage into the first quarter break. UC San Diego held the Mustangs to just 2-of-12 from the field and forced four turnovers in the opening period.

The Tritons extended their lead to as many as 11 early in the second quarter before Cal Poly scored five unanswered to make it 16-10. UC San Diego used another six-point run to close out the first half and take a 26-15 lead into the intermission.

UC San Diego opened up the second half with a four-point run to extend its largest lead of the quarter 30-15. The Tritons maintained the 15-point advantage down to 3:26 on the clock before Cal Poly put together a five-point run. Cangelosi hit a three in the final minute and UC San Diego took a 42-29 lead into the final quarter break.

The Tritons carried that momentum into the final quarter, scoring 10 unanswered for their largest lead of the contest, 55-34. The Mustangs turned up the pressure on defense and answered with a nine-point run of their own in the final minutes. UC San Diego closed out the contest with a 5-0 run to take the victory, 60-43.
