LA JOLLA, Calif.—UC San Diego softball has another busy slate beginning this weekend hosting Boston College March 3 thru March 5 for three games. With a day off in between, the Tritons come back to Triton Softball Stadium on Tuesday, March 7 to host Western Carolina University in a single game matchup.
Boston College enters the weekend at 8-7 on a one game winning streak after going 2-3 at the Joan Joyce Classic in Boca Raton, Fla.
The WCU Catamounts will compete in a double header vs. USC Upstate on Wednesday before traveling to face the Tritons. The Catamounts are currently 3-6 and went 1-4 at the GSU Panther Invitational in Georgia this past weekend.
UC San Diego enters the home slate on a four-game losing streak after going 1-4 at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. The Tritons are currently 7-9 overall.
While UC San Diego ultimately fell to then No. 24 Oregon, the Tritons held the Ducks to two runs over seven innings with
Jada Cecil fanning five batters in her seven innings of work. The Ducks had beaten three top 25 teams before they faced the Tritons and had to battle for the winning run that didn't come until the seventh inning, defeating UC San Diego 2-1.

LAST TIME OUT

UC San Diego softball will travel to Riverside, Calif. for the Lance Up Invite hosted by California Baptist. The Tritons will compete in four games over three days. Facing Syracuse (twice), Harvard, and Cal Baptist.
Action is set to begin on March 10 at 2:30 pm vs. Syracuse.
CECIL MAKES PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
Sophomore
Jada Cecil earns preseason recognition as she is named to the 2023 Big West Preseason Coaches' Team after a breakout rookie campaign.
Cecil returns to the circle for the Tritons after a dominant rookie season. Tossing 230 strikeouts over 174.1 innings of work with an ERA of 1.62, Cecil went 20-4 in the regular season for the gold and blue.
She broke three records in the 2022 season: the single-game high strikeouts, and the individual season-high strikeouts, and assisted the pitching staff in snapping the 20-year-old team single-season strikeout record as well.
The right-hander earned Big West Pitcher and Freshman Pitcher of the Year, making the conference First Team and All-Freshman team. Recognized nationally, she was a Top 10 Finalist for Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I Freshman of the Year and earned NFCA West Region Second Team honors.

2022 RECAPPED
In the 2022 season, the Tritons finished with an even record overall (28-28) and a winning record in The Big West (15-12). It was a historical season as the Tritons made their first NCAA DI postseason appearance at the NISC Tournament in Colorado. They were the first UC San Diego team to make a DI postseason appearance.
Six Tritons earned All-Big West honors, including
Jada Cecil earning Pitcher of the Year and Freshman Pitcher of the Year.
Gabby Williams and
Jada Cecil both earned All-West Region honors from the NFCA as well.
