FULLERTON, Calif. — UC San Diego dropped a Big West doubleheader to Cal State Fullerton Sunday at Anderson Family Field. The Titans blanked UC San Diego, 4-0, in the opener, and CSF was a 7-1 winner in the series finale.
Cal State Fullerton (19-10 overall, 8-1 Big West) capitalized with a solo home run and a total of nine hits in the first game. UC San Diego (12-18, 2-7) smacked seven hits in game two, but the six-run first proved too much to overcome as the Titans completed the series sweep.
GAME ONE: CSF 4, UC SAN DIEGO 0
Cal State Fullerton took control of the game in the sixth inning with a decisive two-run homer by Lulu Sanchez, extending its lead to 4–0.
UC San Diego had opportunities to shift momentum throughout the game, beginning in the first inning when
Marley Espiau was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on
Maalia Cherry's walk. However, a double play thwarted the early threat.
Zara Wasserman provided a spark with two singles, but the team struggled to convert these into runs, leaving runners in scoring positions in both the fourth and seventh innings without capitalizing.
Wasserman recorded two hits in her three at-bats, contributing offensively for UC San Diego.
Callie Howard pitched a complete game, throwing 6 innings and striking out one batter without issuing a walk.
Tori Hinostro made two assists at third base, demonstrating her fielding abilities.
GAME TWO: CSF 7, UC SAN DIEGO 1
Cal State Fullerton took control early with a six-run first inning against UC San Diego. The inning's pivotal plays included a two-RBI single up the middle by Alexia Lopez and RBI hits from Ava Arce and Maggie Paulovich.
Despite the early deficit, the Tritons found opportunities to apply pressure. In the fourth inning,
Jackie Tremper singled, eventually scoring on a groundout by
Haley Garcia. Earlier in the second inning,
